Cybersecurity for a Global Construction Leader
The client recognised the urgent need to enhance IT security and cloud capabilities to prevent future vulnerabilities. This led to the prioritisation of network security, cloud architecture, and operational technology (OT) improvements. The client required specialised experts to address immediate security gaps and develop long-term solutions for securing its infrastructure.
Approach
Interval assembled a team of specialists to deliver the required expertise in cloud architecture, network and security, and OT remote access:
Cloud Architecture: Our consultant was tasked with developing a concept for edge computing, including defining the reference architecture and creating a support model. This role involved identifying the requirements for edge services, selecting suitable cloud technologies, and optimising data storage and protection for critical applications.
Network and Security: Our consultants were engaged to bolster the client’s network security framework. They developed and implemented network and security standards, designed a Proof of Concept (PoC), and defined the OT LAN segmentation concept to enhance protection against cyber threats. Their work included defining equipment standards and recommending vendors to support the OT LAN reference architecture and industrial DMZ (iDMZ) deployment.
OT Remote Access: Our expert focused on evaluating and automating the access revocation process on F5 platforms. The role included designing automation scripts, creating a roadmap for implementation, and upgrading the VPN approval flow to improve security and streamline remote access processes.
Outcomes
The cybersecurity project yielded significant improvements in both security and cloud infrastructure:
The edge computing concept enabled the integration of cloud technologies into the client's IT landscape, enhancing data storage management and bolstering protection for critical applications.
The network and security enhancements directly addressed identified vulnerabilities. The implementation of OT LAN segmentation and iDMZ architecture improved network resilience, offering better protection across production as well as office functions.
The OT remote access improvements optimised security for remote connections, automating access revocation and enhancing the configuration of VPN processes on F5 platforms to prevent unauthorised access.
The project resulted in stronger security defences, improved infrastructure management, and a more agile, cloud-enabled organisation. The client now has a more resilient IT and OT environment, positioned to withstand future cyber threats while optimising its global operations.
